The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC), the independent scientific body which advises the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions on the prescription of diseases within the Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit scheme, today announced the publication of its seventh Annual Report.
The main content of the report is work completed by IIAC in 2004/5, its strategy for communication and the names of Council members and other positions held by them.
In the past year IIAC completed reports on Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome and asbestos-related diseases, which it has placed on its website for comment, and commissioned a review of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Currently it is reviewing Work-Related Upper Limb Disorders, silica-related renal disease and sports injuries. The report outlines IIAC’s programme for 2005-6 including reviews of occupational voice loss and Whole Body Vibration.
The report also gives details of the retirements and appointments that took place during the year.
